We cut “reliability of mobile keys” issues by delaying Apple Wallet key provisioning 60–90 seconds after room assignment so the lock has time to sync before the guest hits the door; it was a $0 config change in our PMS and dropped failed taps from about 12% to about 3%. If you can’t set a delay, have the desk reissue the Wallet pass on the spot after the first miss — second issue almost always works on older BLE locks.

Quick win on our side: most “unreliable” Wallet keys traced back to clock drift between PMS and the lock server, so we enforce NTP sync every 4–6 hours and add a 5‑minute grace on start/end; support tickets dropped noticeably. If your vendor won’t expose NTP, the grace window helps, but keep it tight. @chloe1990 your delay trick + this has been our peanut butter and jelly.

Biggest lift for us was slapping an NFC decal exactly over the reader coil and bumping the lock’s hold time to about 600 ms — turns out the door wants a handshake, not a high‑five. Small caveat: if guests have “Express Mode” off you’ll still see misses, so we nudge them at check‑in with a one‑tap enable link to Apple’s guide (Use Express Mode with transit cards, passes, and keys in Apple Wallet - Apple Support).
