Breaking into hotel ops analytics

If you were prioritizing skills to land an entry-level operations analyst role, what would you focus on first? In my current seat, the work that moves the P&L is modeling labor-to-revenue by department and tracking housekeeping minutes-per-room across a 212-room downtown property, so I’m weighing whether to push candidates toward SQL (PostgreSQL) or advanced Excel with Power Query.

I’d start with PostgreSQL and build a small mart that outputs daily labor-to-revenue by department and housekeeping ‘minutes-per-room’ for your 212-room property, then use Excel/Pivots for the last mile. What PMS/timekeeping are you on? If your org lives in Excel, Power Query gets you 80% there, but the SQL base makes the P&L conversations cleaner.
