At 8:17 p.m. in Ballroom B during last night’s awards dinner, our wireless mic cross-talked with Security Channel 3, so the CEO’s big line got upstaged by a very serious lost-and-found alert about a single left shoe; I smiled, muted, and segued to applause like it was scripted — anyone else have tech try to steal the show mid-program?
That’s a Cinderella subplot if I’ve ever heard one. I ask security for their channel map at load-in, do a ‘scan before doors’, lock coordinated frequencies, and keep a wired lectern as a quiet backup. If they won’t share details, I at least log their active slots during rehearsal and steer our mics well clear.
Wild when a single left shoe steals the line; building on @jessicaR92’s scan, enable pilot tone and bump squelch so Security Channel 3 can’t open your receivers. I also keep a digital backup handheld (ULX-D) hot and a “panic mute” on the lectern bus to cover a hit with applause if it flares at 8:17 p.m. again.
